At least Rudy a bunch of people were killed when I was mayor (please ignore my idiotic placement of my command post) go America!  Giuliani wasn't chosen.  You want a dude whose entire campaign was based on fear and stupidity there you go.  For a while I was worried some people were going to vote for him.

Anyway I always find those hey why are things like that in America when they're like this in other places articles interesting, but a bit off point.  Nobody is voting for the president thinking about how it is in another country where it might be worse.  I doubt many nations are all that different when they vote.  I recall a bunch of articles about politicians in other nations trying to build campaigns on platforms including the states have gone nuts! and despite being right about that ... they found the locals still voted on local issues.  Stuff is different in different places.  Yup.

Not to dump that on your whole article.  It was a good read.  I just have that reaction anytime someone even touches that aspect of an argument.

I included the bit about Grossman mostly because the interview with him inspired the article. I read that quote about the atom bomb and the first thing that popped into my mind is, `that sounds like a good description of some folks on the right wing in the US except it sounds a whole lot different coming from someone who has to worry about rockets coming down on him on a daily basis.' I like to give shout outs to the bits that get me thinking down a certain road. I also wanted to make the point that there is a context from which that mode of thinking does make sense.

That said, I agree with it being a little off point.

Also, don't relax until McCain makes his veep selection. Romney is just as bad as, if not worse than, Giuliani with regards to `the terrorists are coming!' It's possible, albeit probably unlikely, that McCain could choose either.
